Getting Here and Around

By Car

What is so very special about Gandria is that it is hanging on the mountain slope with no roads through the village, i.e. it cannot be accessed by car. And this is actually the big fascination! At night it is so quiet that you can sometimes hear how the swans are flapping their wings flying across the late.

With the Casa 1659, we are still much luckier than others in terms of the logistics as you can unload your luggage or shopping just 50 meters from the house. But once you have unloaded, you will have to park the car outside the barrier (250 meters).

We would get you a parking permit that would make it easier and cheaper than using the meter (unfortunately, the is virtually no free parking available anymore in the Lugano area). The cost would be CHF 40 per week (7 calendar days) instead of CHF 12 per day if use the meter. You would just have to tell US when you book.

By Boat

From April till October, the boat is the most picturesque and relaxing way to go to Lugano and also reach some other places to visit such as Morcote or Caslano. There are different formulas: single tickets, the day pass, 3-out-7 tickets, etc. For the time table, consult www.lakelugano.ch. All tickets can be bought in Gandria. However, if you want to use the boat to travel on, use the SBB website choosing "Gandria, SNL" as a starting point.

By Bus

The bus is a great way to get around in the area. It leaves from just 50 meters from the Casa 1659. The bus runs regularly between 7 am and 7 pm - and on some days till 10 pm. For the time table, consult www.lakelugano.ch. You can buy a weekly pass (CHF 37 / CHF 18.50 for the owners of a Swiss Travelcard) or just single tickets. The weekly pass can be bought at the railway station when you arrive. For learning more about how to get around in the region, use the SBB website choosing "Gandria, Paese" as a starting point.
